| Home Again! Upcoming Shows |
April 13, 2011
|
Hello everyone! We are home from nearly two months on the road. We had a blast on the West Coast with our new bffs Olin and the Moon (and Thor!) and Horde and the Harem, enjoyed the insanity of our third straight SXSW, and rocked it hard on our Midwestern and Rocky Mountain tour with the stony Vermonters in Chamberlin. Our hometown Rickshaw Stop show was fantastic and it was great seeing so many friends/family after being gone for so long.
We have some upcoming localish shows to talk about, including a last minute show with the amazing Mother Hips in Folsom and the Olin boys in Davis! All the upcoming info is on the Shows page, make sure to get tickets early for that Folsom show! We're finally gearing up to head back in the studio for our next album. New stuff is on the way! |

| Back from the UK and on to SXSW/Midwest |
March 07, 2011
|
Our first foray into the wilds of England was a blast! We played lots of great shows and want to sincerely thank all of the people who came out to see us in every town we played in and thank all of the bands/artists that opened up shows. We hope to get back across the pond sooner than later...
An easy way to follow our (mis)adventures and see what we see, check out our Blog or our Facebook page!
In the meantime, we'll be back at it tomorrow starting in Sacramento and playing all down the West Coast before heading off to our third straight South by Southwest festival! We'll be listing our SXSW shows soon so keep your eyes open for free day parties and an official showcase show for No Depression!
The tour will then take us through the Midwest and back over the Rockies to San Francisco. See you all at a show or two! |

| UK Album Release and Tour! SXSW and Midwest Shows! |
February 08, 2011
|
We are a week away from our arrival in London and we're crazy excited about our first international tour! So much to do!
The self-titled album is being officially released in the UK via Proper Distribution on February 14th, Valentine's Day! Show some love and pick up a copy. We arrive in London on February 16th and play all over England and Scotland. Take a look at our Shows page or Myspace page for more info on shows. Can't wait for all that delicious Indian food!
We arrive back in the states on March 6th and have a day to rest before we head out on a California tour with Olin and the Moon (LA) and Horde and the Harem (Seattle) that takes us around Northern and Southern California before a stop in Arizona on our way to SXSW 2011 in Austin, Texas. We'll be playing the No Depression Showcase as well as a few free day parties during the festival. Again, keep your eyes on the Shows page for info.
Post-SXSW, we head through the Midwest with a great band from Burlington, Vermont called Chamberlin and continue on throughout the West with them until April 8th.
Phew! I am exhausted just typing this! We couldn't be more excited to share all of this news with you and we sincerely hope that you can make it out to a show or two, wherever it may be. Keep your eyes on our blog and our Twitter page (www.twitter.com/orthewhale) for loads of tour updates, pictures, videos, and lots of talk about food.
Love and see you all soon,
Or, the Whale |

We've got a big year ahead, folks! Especially these first couple months. To start it all off, we've got a live performance on West Coast Live, an NPR radio show out of San Francisco on Saturday morning, January 22nd from 10am to noon. We'll be playing a couple favorites as well as a new song or two. We'll see how many we can squeeze on the show. Stream it live here: http://www.kalw.org/music.html
Next week, we'll be heading on a relatively local four-date run including Oakland, Santa Cruz, Chico, and Merced. All the shows will be with some great bands including Tape Deck Mountain, Typhoon, Poor Bailey, and others. Check the Shows Page for more info on the shows.
Finally new merchandise is here! We've got new totebags, t-shirts, hoodies, and all sorts of goodies on our Big Cartel site. We'll also have all of these at our shows. Check them out on our homepage! |

We hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far. OTW has recently finished our final shows with Matt, Julie, and Justin. These founding members have been there since our first practices and it is somewhat surreal to see them go onto other musical and photographic projects. We wish them the best and will definitely be attending whatever amazing project that they create.
With that said, we'd like to welcome Lia Rose and Sean Barnett into the OTW fold. They are both great people and great musicians. Come give them a high five at our next show! Their first shows with Or, the Whale will both be with our great friends, the Mother Hips. We'll be in Chico on December 5th (sold out!) and in San Francisco on December 18th at the Great American Music Hall. We hope to see you there as we finish 2010 right with all our friends! |

Or, the Whale is a collective of members
who prove power in numbers. With a strong DIY ethic, and a Carter
Family chemistry, they’ve continued to warm hearts and move feet
across America for the past five years. They deliver honesty and
energy every time, weaving smooth classic rocks jams, sweet folk
lullabies, boot-stompin’ country rockers, and gritty blues porch
anthems into a seamless and powerful live show. |
